Writing Center Referral Process

Writing Center Referral Process

Any SCU Professor  may refer a student to the Writing Center.  When referrring a student, the instructor will fill out a referral form (distrributed by the Writing Center) to identify issues needing improvement.  The student will then bring this referral form to the appointment  at the Writing Center, and the consultant will stamp, sign, and date the referral sheet as proof that the student attended.

An instructor may also require that a student take a rough draft of a paper to the Writing Cener for help with revision.  In this case, the constultant will stamp, sign, and date the rough draft as proof that the student drafted the work and made the appropriate revisions.

Instructors in English Composition I are particularly encouraged to refer students who need writing remediation. By identifying and assisting these students in their first semester at SCU, the Writing Center can help prevent students from dropping out,and can help them build the writing skills they need to succeed in their upper division courses.

Students do not need a referral to use the writing center. They are encouraged to use this campus resources whenever it is scheduled to be open.
