Welcome Week Activities to Welcome New Students to Campus

Southwestern Christian University will welcome students for the start of the 2012-2013 academic year with a week full of activities August 11-18.

“I am very excited about the events we have planned for all of our students during Welcome Week 2012,” said Chad Pugh, Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management. “I am confident they will assist our new students with their transition to our campus community.”

International students and student-athletes will be able to unpack early on Thursday, August 9 during the Early-Bird Move-In. Early-Bird Move-In is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Regularly scheduled first-year move-in is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Events on August 11 begin with a Residence Hall meeting for all residential students at 7 p.m. followed by the Student Senate Ice Cream Social at 10 a.m. in the Patrick Center. New students will be welcomed by the officers of the Student Senate and will receive information about Welcome Week activities.

New students can connect with members of the SCU faculty, staff and experienced student leaders during informational sessions throughout the week to be held at various campus locations. Interactive activities are planned that will provide further information about financial management, study skills, and campus life. Students will also have meals provided in the Patrick Center throughout the week. Additionally, students who have not yet finalized their enrollment will be able to do so at scheduled times throughout the week.

While the days will be filled with informational and educational programming, the evening activities will provide new students the opportunity to have some fun and make new friends. Evening events will include a scavenger hunt, bowling, movie night, and the legendary mud mountain.

The Center for Student Success will provide academic placement testing as well as academic and student support. Any student interested in receiving free academic assistance may request a tutor.

Classes for the fall 2012 semester will begin on Monday, August 20.
