Spiritual Life is a key factor in the students experience at Southwestern Christian University. Seeking to develop the total person: Scholarship, Spirit and Service, SCU offers more than a quality academic education. The purpose of the Office of Spiritual Life is to equip men and women leaders developed in Christian character, experienced in ministry, equipped by the Word and empowered by the Sprit to advance the Kingdome of God.
Equipping Leaders to Advance the Kingdom
The Office of Spiritual Life accomplishes these goals in five specific areas:
- SCU Chapel
- REAL Ministries
- Local Church
- Christian Service
- All-University Functions
All five areas work together to Educate, Equip and Empower students to fulfill the ministry call and purposes God has for them. If you have any questions concerning the various elements of Spiritual Life at SCU or if you would like a team to minister at your church, contact
David Roberts, Director of Spiritual Life, at 405.789.7661 x3436 or e-mail david.roberts@swcu.edu.
- SCU Chapel
- SCU Chapel takes place every Tuesday and Thursday. This time of corporate praise and worship and powerful preaching is a cornerstone for the Spiritual Life of the SCU community.
-
REAL Ministries
- REAL Ministries are student led small groups that help facilitate ministry and accountability among students at SCU. REAL Ministries are intended to build RELATIONSHIPS among the students, produce EXCELLENCE in character, provide ACCOUNTABILITY in their spiritual life and equip with the LEADERSHIP skills necessary in every area of life. Students desiring to begin a new REAL Ministries group should visit the Office of Spiritual Life for more information
- Local Church
- SCU believes church attendance and participation is a necessary element in the development of our spiritual life. The Office of Spiritual Life holds every student accountable for their weekly church attendance. We strongly encourage every student to become involved in the ministry of a local church with the understanding that the local church is God's selected tool to reach the world with the Gospel of Christ.
- Christian Service
- Practical experience in Christian Service is recognized as an essential and integral part of a Christ-centered educational experience. All students are required to participate in the Christian Service programs. The service activities fit the academic major of each student and are structured so that each year's activities provide practical experiences for the student. For details concerning the Christian Service program see the Student Catalog.
- All-University Functions
- All-University Functions are announced at the beginning of each semester and it is expected that each student attend. These events provide personal growth both spirtually and socially: as well as build the entire SCU community.
