The program of student activities at SCU
is focused to develop
Christian workers. Included in this program are physical and social
activities that are designed for the student's developmental and
emotional needs while on the campus. In addition, the program
seeks to provide a model for kinds of social and athletic programs
and services that students can use in active ministry after graduation.
Robert Hough Culture Crossers
In order to promote the Great Commission students of Southwestern created the Robert Hough Missionary Society in honor of the university's first missionary. This club seeks to promote interest and support for missionary activity. They network local churches and missions groups in order to provide opportunities for Southwestern students to take part of a mission trip during their attendance at the university. Trips are planned and promoted by students. These trips are both short and long term and take place in and out of the country. Some recent trips that students have been a part of are Mexico, South Africa, and South America.
Southwestern Ministerial Fellowship
The Southwestern Ministerial Fellowship (SMF) is organized for students who recognize God's divine call and who are dedicating their time and talents to preparation for ministry. SMF cooperates with many churches within commuter distance of Oklahoma City to obtain opportunities for students to gain experience through preaching as well as participation of other forms of ministry.
Southwestern Christian Education Association
SCEA is an organization of students who are interested in Christian
education. Students who are concentrating their studies in Christian education and those who have strong interest in the teaching aspect of the church are encouraged to join. SCEA cooperates with churches in the greater Oklahoma City area by becoming involved in Sunday School, youth activities, and teaching ministry.
Armor-Bearers
An organization designed to assist the students in the development of their God-breathed ministries. All students may not be called into a "blueprint" ministry of pastor, teacher, evangelist, missionary, etc. God is raising up men and women who feel a special call to position of assistants, or support ministries-Armor-Bearers.
Souled Out! …and takin' it to the streets…
SOULED OUT! is and evangelistic team that uses the creative arts as the primary means of communication. Through drama and one-on-one evangelism, SOULED OUT! has participated in outreaches in Oklahoma City, Denver, and Houston.
Music Ministry - Ensemble(s)
Music has always been a part of the SCU tradition. Through the ministry of music, the Great Commission of Jesus Christ is fulfilled by sharing the Gospel in song in many of our churches in the Southwest region.
Student Senate
The Student Senate is the executive committee of the student body
and has general charge of student activities on the campus. The
Student Senate seeks to develop the spiritual, social, intellectual,
and athletic aspects of the whole person. In doing so, it promotes
spiritual growth, cooperation, and goodwill on the campus.
Included in their responsibility are campus spiritual emphases,
dorm prayer and Bible study groups, and campus social and intramural
events. Persons serving in the SCU Student Senate are provided
opportunities to develop leadership skills which they may later
utilize as leaders in the church.
Intramural Activities
The intramural program is designed to promote fun and fellowship. The students develope teams and partisipate in varrious competitive activities such as basketball, softball, game nights and bowling.
Intercollegiate Sports
SCU has an active athletic program.
SCU's
program is non-scholarship and provides an outlet for ministry
as well as a program of athletic activity for the men and women of the campus.
SCU is a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association
(NCCAA).
