8.28.10 - The Southwestern Christian University Women’s Soccer team took to the field for the first time ever Saturday afternoon to face off against the St. Gregory’s University Cavaliers.
The Lady Eagles fell behind early to the Cavs when the ball found the net off the foot of Adrianne Ambrosy
The Eagles fought back with extraordinary effort for the remainder of the first half, threatening to tie the score with every trip down the field. Haley Boettler finally knotted things up for the Eagles with just minutes remaining until halftime.
Megan Plank returned the favor for the Lady Cavs early in to second half action, putting St. Greg’s back on top 2-1.
The Lady Eagles were not quite ready to call it quits, however, as the score was evened out again by a penalty kick from Erin Fleharty.
The contest turned very physical late into the game with both teams battling back and forth for the lead. Then, with less than ten minutes remaining in the game, Jennifer Alesch would score for St. Greg’s, placing the Lady Cavs back on top for good.
Hannaford earned the win for SGU while Amy Witt took the loss for Southwestern Christian. Witt came away with two saves in the match.
The Lady Eagles will be back in action Tuesday, August 31st when they host SNU. Game time is set for 3:00 PM.
