SCU Announces Alumni Award Recipients

Bethany - Southwestern Christian University will present three Distinguished Alumni Awards at the annual Alumni and Friends Homecoming Weekend set for November 1 and 2.

These awards are presented to Alumni who have not only left a lasting impression on Southwestern Christian University, but who have lived out the mission of the school, which is to positively impact their world for Jesus Christ.

The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Evelyn Deedee Springer. Mrs. Springer, a resident of Memphis, Tennessee, is the Vice-president of Development and Co-owner of Armstrong Relocation, an agency of United Van Lines. She is a philanthropist involved in supporting many churches and charitable organizations. Mrs. Springer was recently named to the MClub at the University of Memphis and serves on the Southwestern Christian University Board of Regents and the Executive Committee.

Dr. M. W. Murr will receive the Dan Beller Legacy Award. Dr. Murr graduated from SCU in 1951. He served as a professor of Bible at SCU from 1956 to 1976 and was the Dean of Men and the Dean of Students during his twenty years at SCU. Dr. Murr was a beloved professor and faculty member at SCU during his tenure and we are thrilled to have him back on campus.

The Outstanding Alumni Award will go to Max and Jessica Barroso.  Max graduated from Southwestern Christian University in 2009 and Jessica graduated the following year.  They are now the directors of The Awakening, which is a program within the International Pentecostal Holiness Church that provides opportunities to familiarize young people with missions by connecting students to proper channels, helping them find resources and equipping them to serve while creating opportunities to experience missions first-hand and deepen their relationship with Christ.

SCU congratulates all of these deserving individuals.  The awards will be presented by Officers of the Board of Regents during the Homecoming Luncheon on Saturday, November 2 at SCU, located in Bethany, Oklahoma.
