Test Proctoring Policy

TEST PROCTORING POLICY
Spring 2010 ; revised Fall 2010; Revised Spring 2012

Due to the increase in the number of students requiring test proctoring, the number of students who are not following through on taking such tests, and for SCU to be in better compliance with confidentiality requirements, the library is no longer able to have open testing, or testing at the student’s convenience. Beginning in the spring of 2010 the policy for administering or supervising tests for students will be during designated “Proctor” periods. This will allow for better tracking by instructors, better focus for students, and earlier identification of problems.

An instructor wishing for a student to take an exam or quiz under the proctoring of the library will need to --

a) ascertain the student had an excused absence for the test being taken.

b) make arrangements in writing with the Library Director (email will suffice)

c) leave quizzes with the Library Director

d) identify date of quiz, class, student names, and date the quiz is to be returned to the instructor

e) inform the student they will need to make an appointment with the Library Director for the re-test.

The best way to do this is to bring the quiz to the library in a manila envelope. It will function similar to a memo envelope used in many business settings. See sample. This can be easily created on a sheet of tying paper and adhered to an envelope and then reused by blotting out the name of previous students.

PROCTOR PERIODS
• Proctor periods will be on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday afternoons from 2:30 to 3:30. Fridays by appointment.
• Students whose work or class schedules preclude this must make an appointment to test with their instructor or the Library Director.
• If a student misses this appointment the testing materials will go back to the instructor and other arrangements will have to be made for instructor authorized retakes.
• All testing materials will be kept in the Library Director’s office until used and then returned to the instructor or (in the event they have no mailbox) their chair.

DROP OFF TESTS OR STUDENT PICKUPS:

The Library Director will accept these, but please be aware that it will be best to inform the student that they should use the Proctor Periods.  The Library Director may have meetings, classes, no staff to cover, or other activities.  AN APPOINTMENT IS ALWAYS BEST.

Student Identification Verification: Each student will be required to display to the Proctor a valid, current identification (student ID, passport, and/or driver's license).
