COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
(All courses are for 3 credit hours and use the Bible as the
foundational text).
Directed Studies: 5013-5993 or 6013-6993
These courses give students the opportunity to do study and/or
do field research in a selected area of professional interest. Three hours
of credit may be awarded. A proposal for any directed study must be submitted
and approved by the Dean. A course designation will
be assigned from an appropriate area of study with the number 5013-5993 or
6013-6993. (For example: TH 5013, etc.)
Studies of selected Biblical books are available as part of
5013-5993 or 6013-6993 Directed Studies offerings.
BIBLICAL STUDIES
BI 5213 Biblical Interpretation
This course surveys the history of biblical interpretation with
attention to contemporary methods. Issues of authority and inspiration are
examined and applied to today’s ministry context. It requires a major
interpretation project in both Old and New Testaments.
BI 5603 Old Testament History and Theology
This course surveys the narratives of the historical-thematic
survey of the Old Testament. Attention is given to the literary
development and theological content as viewed against the cultural, historical,
and geographical background of the text.
BI 5613 New Testament History and Theology
This is an historical-thematic survey of the New Testament
covering the literary character and theological content. These writings
are viewed against the cultural, historical, and geographical background of the
text.
BI 5993 (LEAD 5993) Bible Centered Leadership
An intensive study of selected New Testament books and passages
to discover leadership principles comprise the core of this
course. The objective is to stir the excitement of discovering concepts from
God’s Word and motivate the student to become a lifelong
student of the Word.
GROWING HEALTHY CHURCHES
GHC 5103 Church Health Principles
This course surveys the Biblical, theological, and sociological
principles in a scientific study of church growth as first developed by
Donald McGavran. Statistical analysis of the positive and negative factors of
growth theories are applied to local congregations.
Emphasis is placed on student’s ability to do research methodology in order to
develop healthy churches.
GHC 5443 (PMIN 5443) Praise and Worship
This course is an investigation of the role of worship in the
life of the Church, emphasizing the development of a theology of
worship. Pentecostal-Charismatic worship and its place in growing churches are
emphasized. Practical training is given in how to
plan, lead, and flow in a worship service.
GHC 5613 (PMIN 5613) Small Groups and Community
This course is designed as a lecture-laboratory experience where
small group principles and dynamics are applied towards building
healthy, wholesome relationships and community. Various models of local church
renewals through small groups and their use in
planting new churches are examined.
GHC 5923 (LEAD 5923) Skill Formation of a Leader
This course explores change agent roles, conflict management,
decision making processes, and organizational dynamics needed by
effective leaders in a local church. Character and other essential qualities for
leaders are stressed along with the changing
landscape of today’s ministry.
GHC 6423 (IS 6423) Church Planters School
This is an intensive, practical study of methodologies for
church planting in the Urban U.S. and cross-cultural locales. Strategies
are developed to reach and evangelize targeted people groups in these cities.
This course is usually held in partnership with
EVUSA and the Church Planters School.
GHC 6723 Church Revitalization and Renewal
Students are trained to evaluate the 15 key factors essential to
a healthy church. Keys are provided to break through growth barriers so
churches are revitalized and renewed. Studies are made of demographic,
geographic, and historic factors impacting the life of a church.
The emphasis is developing healthy churches that reproduce themselves.
GHC 6913 (PMIN 6813) Church Stewardship & Management
Stewardship of time, talent, treasure and temple are stressed in
this course. The management, budgeting and financing for
successful church life and ministry support are examined. A survey of the
Biblical foundations of stewardship principles, fund
raising and capital campaigns essential to resource growing churches are units
included in this course.
INTERCULTURAL STUDIES
IS 5103 Missionary Life and Practice
A study of the principles of itinerating, fund raising, gaining
prayer support, networking, and mobilizing others for missions are vital
dynamic aspects of this course. Relationships of missionaries to pastors, local
churches, mission boards and others on the field are also
examined. This class is usually held in partnership with the IPHC School of
Missions.
IS 5303 Foundations of World Evangelism
This course is a study of the Biblical basis for the church’s
mission in the world. Units include a survey of missions history, the doctrine
of the church, the contribution of the social sciences, and an evaluation of
various missions strategies.
IS 5673 (PMIN 5673) Evangelism and Outreach
Various types of evangelism and outreach are studied to enhance
the mission, growth and impact of the local church in a
community. Outreach to all segments of society and ethnic groups is stressed so
the church is faithful to the Great Commission.
Practical field experience in a dynamic church is a vital aspect of this course.
IS 5693 Mobilizing the Local Church For World Evangelism (MOST)
Topics include how to mobilize the local church with a global
vision, praying for the harvest, targeting an unreached
people group, training of leadership, raising missions budgets, conducting
missions conferences, taking short term trips
and giving the local church a world vision for the harvest. Usually held in
partnership with MOST or a Missions
Conference.
IS 5743 Perspectives on the World Christian Movement
This is an independent study course giving you the opportunity
to discover what God is doing around the world and consider your
part in His purpose. The course will help you understand God’s plan for the
world and possibly your life. It was designed and
continues to be sponsored and developed by the Institute for International
Studies of the U. S. Center for World Mission in
Pasadena, CA. The course is divided into four major sections: Biblical,
Historical, Cultural, and the Strategic aspect of missions.
IS 6423 (GHC 6423) Church Planters School
This is an intensive, practical study of methodologies for
church planting in the Urban U.S. and cross-cultural locales. Strategies
are developed to reach and evangelize targeted people groups in these cities.
This course is usually held in partnership with
EVUSA and the Church Planters School.
IS 6503 Ministering Across Cultures
The significance of cultural values and practices, language
barriers, non-verbal communication, and other characteristics are covered to
enable the student to bridge these barriers and strategically complete the Great
Commission. Principles covered are applicable to the
U.S.A. and the nations of the world.
IS 6853 Issues and Trends in World Evangelization
This course covers the major trends, both theological and
strategic, in contemporary missions. These will be examined and evaluated in
light of a Pentecostal perspective. The student will develop a strategy that
will engage the issues and lead to greater effectiveness in
reaching the unreached people groups of the world.
LEADERSHIP
LEAD 5303 Spiritual Formation of a Leader
The processes of God in the development of Godly leaders are
studied. Examples are drawn from the scriptures and life to provide case
studies of God’s ways. Patterns such as time lines, development phases, process
items, convergence, gift mix, character formation,
spiritual authority, and leaving a lasting legacy comprise units of this course.
LEAD 5553 (PMIN 5553) Organizational Leadership Principles
Sound administrative principles and effective ways to lead the
local church into a vibrant, dynamic community of faith touching and
changing the world are examined. As part of a learning lab, field visits to
dynamic local churches that demonstrate these characteristics
are a vital part of the class. Church structure, culture, government, budgets
and finances, building and facility management, and
outreach are units covered in this course.
LEAD 5693 Living Destiny by Design
This course enables the student to understand the unique design
the amazing Father has given to everyone. Design, Destiny and
Demonstration are all part of the 3-D process all go through in order to live a
life of purpose, make a contribution and finish well.
LEAD 5763 Personal Disciplines of a Leader
The personal growth and professional development of a leader are
emphasized in this practical course. Characteristics of
successful leaders are studied and applied to the leader’s personal life. Growth
goals, time management, and personal health of a
successful leader are encouraged by becoming accountable to peers as part of the
requirements of this course.
LEAD 5793 Equipping and Releasing Leadership
The leadership selection process, discipling, mentoring, and
relational empowerment of emerging leaders are vital aspects of this
course. The discovery of one’s spiritual gifts and their release through various
ministry opportunities enable the church to fully function
as a dynamic body. Curricula for spiritual growth and life-development to
facilitate the maturity of believers makes this a valuable
course for local church life.
LEAD 5923 (GHC 5923) Skill Formation of a Leader

LEAD 5983 (WM 5983) Leading Apostolic Churches
The nature, characteristics, ministry opportunities and impact
of mega churches on a city, state or region as they bring
transformation are studied on site. Attention is given to the organizational
structure, corporate culture and apostolic leadership of
these dynamic Spirit-formed churches that are being raised up around the world.
LEAD 5993 (BI 5993) Bible Centered Leadership

LEAD 6653 Emerging Destiny Patterns
This is a study of leadership development processes and phases
leading to the discovery of purpose, personal destiny and living a
focused life. Seasons of destiny, spiritual authority, deep processing are
examined to gain God’s perspective and purpose for leaders.
Character over charisma and other principles are stressed so leaders finish
well.
LEAD 6743 (PMIN 6743) Developing the Healthy Leader
This course assists students in establishing a good self
identity through understanding who they are in Christ. Personal issues and
practices are examined in light of God’s Word. Bondages from past heritages,
models and thought patterns are overcome to bring
freedom and fulfill destiny.
LEAD 6833 Profiles in Leadership
The lives of significant historical and current leaders are
studied as to their development, personal lives, historical situation,
significant decisions and legacy or contribution. This course allows students to
be mentored by these case studies and apply
concepts to their own leadership development.
LEAD 6983 Understanding Your Gifting
Understanding Your Gifting is a unique class designed to help
the student understand how God empowers a leader to become a
unique, sharp threshing instrument in His hand. The study takes an in-depth
looks at spiritual gifts, natural abilities, talents and
life experiences in order to better understand the personal process towards
developing the total person.
LIFE COACHING
*LC 6873 Foundational Coaching Formation
This is an introductory course designed to acquaint the student
with the basics and potential for life change through biblical
coaching. The values and skills needed to be an effective personal coach unlock
the possibilities of spiritual formation in lives.
For those wishing to be certified as a life coach by Lifeforming Leadership
Coaching, this is the first of three classes required.
*LC 6903 Life Focus Coaching
Life Focus Coaching leads to an understanding of purpose,
destiny and ultimate contribution of a life. A perspective of God’s hand
and guidance in all areas of life enables one to discover their uniqueness and
fulfill the undiscovered road map already embedded
within you. Interaction with others as a vital part of the class activities
enhances the destiny discovery process. *Please note that
Foundational Coaching Formation is a pre-requisite to this class. Only students
pursuing a Certified Professional Coach
Certificate are eligible to enroll in this class.
* LC 6923 Implementation of Coaching
A capstone class which enables the student to integrate
everything they’ve learned and experienced during the Lifeforming
Leadership Coaching process. Under close supervision, the student’s skills are
honed by actually coaching others. At the end of
the course the student will be able to create individualized growth plans,
identify and engage growth issues in others and offer
effective, personalized help to the sincere client. *Note: LEAD 6873
Foundational Coaching Formation and LEAD 6903 Life
Focus Coaching are pre-requisites to this class. Only students pursuing a
Certified Professional Coach Certificate are eligible to
enroll in this class.
* The successful
completion of these three Coaching classes, plus additional required
assignments,
qualifies the student to be a fully certified Lifeforming Leadership Coach.

LC 6993 Career Coaching
According to the Harvard Business Review, the number of people
entering the coaching field has sky rocked over the last decade.
Career Coaching introduces the student to the possibilities of coaching in the
corporate and business world. The class includes
such topics as: how to market yourself, how to build a unique niche, and how to
remain true to biblical and personal core values.
PASTORAL MINISTRIES
PMIN 5443 (GHC 5443) Praise and Worship

PMIN 5853 Communication in Today's World
The course is designed to teach the student how to effectively
communicate the Gospel to today’s non-Christian world through the
means of preaching, media and written word format. The procedures and
preparations of sound biblical sermons are studied along
with the use of various forms of media so a connection and impact with various
targeted audiences are achieved.
PMIN 6453 Christian Ethics
This course is a study of the ethical dimensions of life and
practice from a biblical and theological perspective. Sound biblical and
ethical lifestyle is stressed. Units of the course include an examination of
contemporary ethical issues in the church and society.
PMIN 6723 Marriage and Family
Ministry needs of families across multicultural contexts and how
to effectively minister to them is the focus of this course. Critical
issues facing marital and family relationships in today’s society, the family
life cycle, and the leader’s home and family needs are
also covered.
PMIN 6743 (LEAD 6743) Developing the Healthy Leader

PMIN 6773 Pastoral Care
This course seeks to integrate all the functions and practices
of pastoral ministry into wholeness for healthy individuals and the
local body. Included are critical issues in counseling, different methodologies,
and the pastor's personal relationships so integrity of
life and ministry are safeguarded.
PMIN 6913 (GHC 6913) Church Stewardship & Management
Stewardship of time, talent, treasure and temple are stressed in
this course. The management, budgeting and financing for
successful church life and ministry support are examined. A survey of the
Biblical foundations of stewardship principles, fund
raising and capital campaigns essential to resource growing churches are units
included in this course.
PMIN 6963 Equipping For Chaplains Ministries I
This is a basic course to prepare for the chaplaincy in a branch
of the military services. Included is a study of the biblical view of
the military, ethics, social diseases, critical incident stress management and
other topics.
PMIN 6973 Equipping For Chaplains Ministries II
This course is a continuation of PMIN 5963. This course deals
with relationships and structure of the military, interfaith
cooperation, denominational distinctives, combat duty, and ministry in a
pluralistic society so the chaplain is prepared for service.
THEOLOGY
TH 5103 Spiritual Life/ Warfare and Ministry
The relationship between spirituality and ministry is studied
with the goal of equipping students to function in ministry leadership with
the strengths of a strong prayer life and spirituality. Setting priorities
between personal, family, and ministry demands are examined.
This course also explores aspects of spiritual warfare that are essential for a
church to be effective so prayer and prophetic intercession
in the church, city and nation are established.
TH 5733 Power Ministry
This is a study of the nature and release of power ministry in
the Bible as a norm for today. Signs and wonders, miracles, deliverance
and inner healing, are evaluated in order to determine the place of power in
ministry for today's world. Various models of ministry are
examined so God’s power is returned to His people and the Church.
TH 6453 Biblical Theology
This course is an examination of key contemporary theological
concepts and doctrines of the Bible. Selected topics, contemporary
issues and themes that are significant to Holiness-Pentecostal-Charismatic
movements are studied.
TH 6633 Theological Method
A study of the Wesleyan quadrilateral of scriptures, tradition,
experience and reason as the basis of making theological decisions is
the structure of this course. Other contemporary theological methods, including
various Evangelical and Pentecostal approaches
are explored.
TH 6773 Pentecostal/Charismatic Theology
The history and practices of the IPHC and other
Pentecostal/Charismatic denominations and fellowships are examined in light of
their
dynamic contributions to theological thought as reflected against their various
backgrounds. Also their impact on the Body of Christ is
evaluated as they gained acceptance in society.
WORK PLACE MINISTRIES
WM 5483 (PMIN 5483) The Church and the Work Place
This course seeks to build bridges between the cultures or the
church and that of the workplace. An emphasis is the role of Biblical
kings and priests in order to eliminate the clergy-laity barriers and release
people into their destinies. The role of apostles in the
market or work place is stressed as part of God’s kingdom strategy to reclaim
the seven mountains of culture.
WM 5983 (LEAD 5983) Leading Apostolic Churches

these dynamic churches that are arising around the world.
WM 6643 Doing Business Supernaturally
This is a study of principles which various churches follow in
equipping professionals, entrepreneurs and leaders for successful
careers as kingdom change agents in the workplace. Sound financial principles,
legal requirements and other aspects of starting a
business are studied. Included in this course are the various dynamics of career
transitions. Field trips to successful church
ministries who have accepted the challenge are visited as life-learning labs.
WM 6883 Community Development and Social Transformation
Principles of city transformation, work place ministries,
networking and partnerships are studied as part of the total outreach and
impact a community of faith can make to bring the kingdom to earth. An
understanding of the seven mountains that must be
conquered and the strategies of high performance for victory are examined for a
city or region to experience transformation.
RESEARCH METHODS
This course is a guided study of the techniques and tools of
bibliographic and field research to better prepare the student for the
writing of MAP, ( Ministry Application Project), in a student’s chosen field of
ministry. Attention is given to the technical
resources, planning, research and proper writing of a thesis type paper or
project. The course will have a designation of the
student’s major field of study as follows:

MINISTRY APPLICATION PROJECT (MAP)
The MAP project is the culminating capstone learning experience
of the curriculum. It is coordinated with the student's present o
projected ministry so immediate practical value is gained through the discipline
of writing the project. The applications project is
mutually worked out between the student, the MAP Director and the Dean.
The MAP must be in the area of the student’s major field of study and will have
one of the following designations:

Ministry Application Project (…6913). MAPS is the actual
writing of the project incorporating the wisdom gained through the
Research Methods Course. The final evaluation will be based on the writing

content, the wisdom from the field resource people, and the demonstration of a
well thought through strategy and application to a
specific area of ministry.
