DISCIPLESHIP UNIVERSITY - Coming fall 2011

"Discipleship" is the process by which we grow to become more like Christ.  Many times, we see people accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and savior and become followers but are not taught what this looks like.  This results in people who were once excited about following Christ, but at some point fall away due to discouragement, confusion, and unconquered sin.

The purpose of SCU's Discipleship University is to "make disciples through the training of SCU students to have a:

• Developing character of Christ
• Growing knowledge of Christ
• Increasing love for Christ resulting in good works

SCU's Discipleship University is designed to assist SCU students who are compelled by Jesus to make a difference for God's glory through: 1) Journey, 2) Discovery, 3) Connecting.

JOURNEY: This truth stresses the reality that our relationship with God is a journey. Since heaven is our destination, life is about the journey and the journey is about abundant life. Through our journey we grow, learn, laugh, love, cry, hurt, and need. We were never intended to travel alone. Discipleship University is about journeying together as we serve God, each other, and the world..

DISCOVERY: This is about us discovering or seeing for the first time new truths about God and getting to know God more and more through worship and learning. We call this learning process "discipleship." This begins when one first learns of God’s amazing love for us and in response invites the Lord Jesus Christ into their life as Lord and Savior.

CONNECT: This truth focuses on people connecting more with God and with each other through relationships. God is all about relationships and he has made us relational beings. Therefore "Connection"  focuses on connecting with God through prayer, each other through fellowship, and the people.
