Special Projects
Over the years, Southwestern alumni and various classes have generously provided financial support to the university above and beyond annual gifts to the Southwestern Heritage Fund and capital campaigns.
This additional support can be contributed by individuals or by classes to help fund different university projects not covered through scholarships or capital campaigns. To get involved with a project you can contact your class liaison or contact the Institutional Development Office.
Listed below are some of the projects for the upcoming year (05-06).
05-06 Projects and projected cost
1. Mash/Loflin Health Center & Hall of Fame
• Second story development in Pickens Springer Gymnasium
• Projected cost - $30,000
• Special Needs – Project Manager, Labor, Paint, Lumber, Weight Equipment
2. New Chairs for Minchew Auditorium
• After removing the worn-down pews in Minchew Auditorium, the university is in need of purchasing 450 new interlocking, portable chairs.
• Projected total cost - $12,600
• $3000 has already been donated.
• Each chair costs $35.99 ; we need 342 people to purchase one chair at this price. The chair can be designated in honor of someone or recognize the donor of the chair. Below are examples of the honor tags that will be mounted on the chairs.

3. Bell Student Center Renovation
• Restoration of student center living area
• Projected cost - $20,000
• Special Needs – Labor, Paint, Sheetrock, Furniture, Television, Décor
4. Campus Makeover
• Campus landscaping to improve initial first impression
• Projected total cost - $25,000
• Special Needs
• Sprinkler system expansion - $4,000
• Curbed main entrance from 39th street - $10,000
• 30 evergreen holly’s and 30 boxwoods to line main entrance
• Various plants and trees to landscape and enhance high traffic areas
• Demolish and remove debris from old maintenance building and old house on Divis street
• Bermuda sod replacement
• All weather picnic tables and chairs
5. Campus Vehicles
• Various vehicles for staff and student groups
• Projected total cost - $40,000
• Golf Cart for maintenance and grounds staff - $3,000
• People Mover (20 person) for Student Ministries - $30,000
• Small Tractor with blade and mowing implements - $7,000
6. Storage Building for Maintenance Staff
• New metal building for maintenance staff
• Projected total cost - $16,000
7. Divis Street Paving
• The city of Bethany has required us to pave half of the street from the new residential unit to the Pickens/Springer Gymnasium.
• Projected total cost - $75,000
